Need cheap travel to Budapest, Hungary or Cluj-Napoca, Romania?

I desperately want to visit my boy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, which is a short train ride from Budapest, Hungary. I cannot afford the air travel that I find at all the online sites. Does anybody have suggestions for cheap travel? I need the total air fare to be $1000 or less.

   Magyar? Try the cruise lines for a one-way transatlantic voyage. It would not take you to Romania, but you could board a train once you reach Europe. The ship would probably go to the Mediterranean port.
