What is the real secret for adding some extra distance to all your golf shots ? The simple answer is club head speed. The faster you swing the club , the farther the ball will go, assuming all other variables to be equal .

But, don’t confuse swinging harder with swinging faster. Attempts to swing harder result in two swing flaws that rob distance. First, when you try to swing hard your muscles have too much tension and the resulting swing is too stiff. Second, there’s a tendency to stop at the ball and not swing through . A relaxed faster stroke is much longer and your follow through is good, resulting in more club head speed . Your contact on the club face will also be more consistent.

So. what is the main problem in average golfers’ swing? The answer is balance. Incorrect or bad balance robs enormous energy out of your shots. To concentrate your energy into each shot, so none is wasted, you must have good balance.

Get into the normal stance that you use when addressing the ball. In your normal stance attempt to lift your toes, one foot at a time. If you can not lift either foot your body weight is too far forward, or you need to straighten up a bit. If you were able to lift them, now attempt to lift them both at the same time. If you can lift both feet at the same time, then your body weight is too far back and you need to lean forward a bit. The best stance is one in which you will only be able to lift one at a time.

All golf clubs are capable of hitting the ball great distances. So, don’t blame your golf equipment. Work on a longer, faster swing that is delivered from a balanced position and follow through. You may not go on tour but you’ll add distance.
